amd athlon 64 3500+ query by Justin R: What is the distinction between the Heatsink on an AMD Athlon 64 3500 and X2 3800 ?
I just purchased an AND athlon 64 3800 (939) and I did not get a heatsink and fan…. Is the one that comes stock with the AMD Athlon 64 3500 the very same one? It looks the same in images but i need to have to make certain before I do the switch…. or does anybody know where I can get an aftermarket Very good heatsink/fan that would work with a 939 for beneath say $ twenty? Please Assist. Thank you in advance.

To find this you need to have to describe who the manufacturer of your pc is or what kind of socket set your motherboard is. You mentioned you bought a athlon with a 939 pin socket set, it will need to have a motherboard, and heat-sink fan that is also uses 939 socket. The 3800+/ 3500+ describes the processor speed but has absolutely nothing to do with what socket set you want to use. I bought a truly excellent heat-sink for my AM2 (940 pin) socket set for $ 25 at tiger immediate. Newegg and CompUSA usually have equivalent specials on there products.

Great 90 nm 939 socket CPU for its heyday,
OK, this 90 nm production AMD is getting close to 6 years old. Great for its day and age, great running XPPro on a backup rig. If you buy one be sure it’s a Venice core as the design allows for massive overclocking. Earlier Barton’s ran OK on Southbridge designed mobo’s but really smoked on Asus A8V deluxe. Going price OEM w/o heatsink & fan as of 08/09 is around $30 bucks.

|Survived two mobos,
I’ve had this processor for 2 years now. When I bought it, it was already on the low-cost side. Two burnt motherboards (both ASUS, btw) and this thing still works. Great for office / Internet / basic videos. Works best without Vista. I never tried to overclock.
