Amd Athlon 64 X2 3800+
amd athlon 64 x2 3800+ question by rporter1986: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ vs AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+?
I am curious to know if I will notice a substantial variation between these two processors if I upgrade from an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (two.0ghz dual core) to a AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ (2.9 ghz dual core). Especially for gaming purposes.
Latest Computer Specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
Nvidia 9800GT
3GB DDR2 Ram
320GB Tough Drive
I would go to quad but my motherboard specs say it can only manage up to a 5600. I’d have to substitute the motherboard and upgrade my Ram to DDR3. Not confident I want to do that however.

Yup for gaming you want at least a two.six-two.7 or better. That’s nearly a total GHz faster

Yes the Athlon 64 X2 5600, 2.9GHz is the better Processor BUT there is no point in upgrading to that as it wont effect your Gaming experience much. It is kind of a waste of money, if you were to upgrade go for a Quad Core. The Processor you have at the moment should be enough to play any game fine it is your Graphics Card that your Games need the most and the one you have is fine unless you get a 1GB GTX275 (or higher) Card which will give you much better FPS.
Then to be honest with you i would just leave the Processor you have in their and just put the money towards a new Graphics Card maybe, not that there is anything wrong with the one you have at the minute but a new Radeon 5xxx Series Card (with DirectX11) or an Nvidia GTX275 wouldn’t go a miss. lol and perhaps a Power Supply upgrade maybe? (If needed)
