Today we’re un boxing the AMD Phenom 2 X4 840 Processor. Part quantity HDX840WFGMBOX . General it is a solid processor with plenty of speed for the common user. The heat sink feels inexpensive and runs a small loud nonetheless it keeps the processor at a cool 18C to 40C at load.

wow with stock cooler and 3.6 ghz OC i get at most 20C
@rshimtheman The highest cache size for an i7 mobile is 8mb L3, 4 cores max, and fastest base clock of 2.7Ghz not 3.46, and even the turbo goes to 3.7Ghz max. You’re probably thinking of Intel Core i7-2969XM Mobile Extreme Edition.

I am a poor man and I do not have money coming out my ass! but in this economy with a 15 trillion dollar debt who does? considering that most people are not rich like me and cannot afford a i7 core cpu AMD HAS ALWAYS PRESENTED THEIR CUSTOMERS WITH GREAT PRODUCTS AT A REASONALBE PRICE AND THIS CPU IS NO EXCEPTION! I am running
this cpu with an 8800gtx and 4gb of ram and all I can say is HOLY CRAP! HIGHER RESOLUTIONS AND AWESOMES FRAM RATES! STARCRAFT 2 EXTREME SETTINGS!

This is a fantastic cpu for the money and I’m using in one of my rigs. If you are gaming at 1080p or above, this is a fantastic choice because you will typically be GPU limited at that point. For everyday tasks? this thing just chews up everything you throw at it. Yea, you can go faster with ‘upscale’ cpus from Intel but honest? I can’t tell the difference between this and an i72600k in everyday tasks. If you want to be a ‘dyno queen’ spend a bunch of money.. if not? grab this cpu.

@figurehead1971 i just got this at micro center also n for the price its a really good cpu..i managed to overclock it to 3.8ghz fairly easy..i also had a x2 5200 before i got this one..haha
This processor is amazing at the moment, my wife picked me up one whilst she was in the US from Micro Center for just $59 full retail package! This has given real new life to my ageing Socket AM2+ board, and makes blu ray compression so much quicker than my older Athlon x2 5200 that was in it before.
For anyone in the US at the moment, this is a steal at Micro Center, especially as it is retail boxed with fan and 3 years warranty!!
i ended up getting this cpu and man it is awesome! when I did futuremark benchmark 05 (evga 9500gt in sli) 1gb ddr2/ there was a huge increase in 3d marks but my cpu runs hot what kind of cpu cooler would you recommend I have a rocketfish cpu cooler but i would like to know if there is something better?
Efficient enough to play Skyrim?
@drudigger I do some video editing with it and it seems to be just fine. I’m sure its not the fastest but it gets the job done in a decent amount of time.
@RFXCasey In cpu heavy titles it will hold back your 560ti about 20%-25%, less if your overclocking. Certainly not a common thing to worry about with most games.
@RFXCasey i just recently bought this im waiting for it to come in the mail, i was wondering if it can render videos with Vegas at a decent or fast speed?
@BloodyRory I have this processor and it runs BF3 like a scalded dog on very high settings with a GTX 560 ti so I don’t know what your talking about. I’m also using an AM2+ mobo and DDR 2. BF3 seems to be much more GPU dependent then CPU. You should have no problem playing BF3 with it as long as you have a decent graphics card.
