No you shouldnt overclock your cpu because you have a laptop and if you do overclock a laptop it will most most likely overheat due to the fact a laptop isnt created for overclocking.

@kogiaant yes it is recommended that you at least have an advanced liquid or gas cooling system, or you are in danger of destroying you cpu.

@kogiaant Yes, depending on what your chipset, CPU ect. is. You’ll need a pretty good after market CPU heatsink/ fan. It’s best to use a water cooler or at least a radiater. Most CPU fan’s will let you know if you can use them for overclocking.

@custompcreview Have you had any problems with the clock speeds switching between 1600MHz and 4200MHz? Also, for how long can you keep it at this clock speed without bringing it back to factory settings, if necessary?

if i put it on auto it gets to insane voltages…once it got up to 1.58 on 4.7ghz, and i thought it was a risk..

hey man, i got my 2600k up to 4.7ghz at 1.37 volts. BUT. when i monitor, the voltage always stays at 1.37 even at idle. is there any settings i need to change? the voltage used to drop down to 0.9 when idle, and yes, i have speedstep enabled.
So, if I overclock this way, my processor’s speed will shoot up to 4.5 GHz when needed? Like when I’m playing games or the like?

@toxicRSA Should work fine. OC genie will work too, but it’ll run your CPU at higher voltage than necessary and you’ll be stuck at 4.2ghz.

Btw just clocked my i7 2600k 3.4ghz to stable 4.5ghz, thanks mate! Made my gpu load go from 60% to 90% in sli!
